Kenmore 158.923 "92" Sewing Machine
This is one of the most unusual--and wonderful!--sewing machine cabinets I've ever seen. It looks just like a fine desk (complete with a cool "Jetson's" chair) when closed...

But then you lift the top, and find that it hinges back...

And as it goes back, the machine "magically" rises up from inside...

Until it's a sewing machine cabinet! Oh so cool.

My guess is that the cabinet was an expensive option. The lady who bought it also bought everything under the sun to go with it. The various accessories boxes have brushes, screwdrivers, needles, bobbins, 30 decorative cams, a buttonholer with ten buttonhole templates, and nine feet.

An original manual, and several interesting vintage accessories: Kenmore "Circular Decorator for Zigzag Machines," "Dot Y's Sewing Guide" for edge- and topstitching, three "Elasti-Guides," and a vintage paper needlecase. It's an impressive assortment! But all those drawers hold it all with plenty of room to spare.

And if by some chance you need more storage room, just raise the seat on the chair.

The machine takes a standard "class 15" bobbin, available everywhere. This is a very clean, strong, and smooth-running machine. It makes the best satin stitch (dense zigzag) of any machine I've ever used.

That beautiful satin stitch translates into beautiful decorative stitches using the cams. I've stitched the cam patterns using regular (50 wt), quilting weight (35 wt), metallic, and rayon threads, and not one hiccup. The stitch patterns are rather unusual, too--quite useable, not the "little duckies" that you generally think of with cams.

This is a beautiful machine!

And it has found a perfect new home.
