| McKenna Linn Fiber Art |
McKenna Linn is an
accomplished artist and author who makes art from her land home in Bradenton, FL, and soon (once again) from a boat home... this time aboard "Journey," a trawler that will do the "Great Loop," i.e., up the Atlantic coast from Florida, across the Great Lakes, down the mid-continental rivers (including the Mississippi, Tennessee, Tom Bigby), around the Gulf of Mexico, and back to Florida. This trip will take the better part of a year, beginning in March 2009. Plans include teaching classes at selected cities along the route, including art quilts, sewing-machine maintenance & repair, freemotion quilting, slash fabric, bag making, and anything else a guild or sewing group might wish to arrange for. Please feel free to contact me if you have any interest in arranging a class for your group! mckenna@mckennalinn.com
She has written numerous sewing and quilting books and patterns under the name Nancy Restuccia, including the best-selling "Quilting By Machine" (Singer Sewing Reference Library), the classic Hold It! How to Sew Bags, Totes, Duffels, Pouches & More, and the popular "Humbug Bag" and "Rumbleford" patterns. She founded and operated the publishing company Make It Easy Sewing & Crafts for seven years, before selling it in 2002. McKenna's recent work includes a series of wall quilts that incorporate fabric from vintage men's ties. This fabric--both flimsy and bias-cut--presents quite a few technical challenges, but the results are worth the effort. From whimsical (novelty prints) to classic (e.g., Rep ties), the fabrics inspire and entertain.
