Hold It!

How to Sew Bags, Totes, Duffels, Pouches & More

Hold It! How to Sew Bags, Totes, Duffels, Pouches, & More, first published in 1994, remains a timeless compendium of clear how-to information for making bags of all types. While the paper version of the book has been out of print for years, I'm happy to offer a CD version.

Widely regarded one of the best books on making bags ever published, Hold It! is a veritable "cookbook" for making bags of any shape and size. Organized into chapters based on the basic bag-forms--Flat, Totes, Duffels, Cases, and Rolls & Pouches--22 individual projects provide step-by-step instructions for making specific bags. Text is clearly and profusely illustrated so there's no question about how to make them. In addition, projects include ideas and instructions for variations, options, and construction techniques so bags can be customized to suit any need or desire. Take a pocket from here, add a construction detail from there, adjust the size to accommodate your particular cargo, and voila! The perfect bag.

Cover

Hold It! includes projects for every skill level, from absolute beginners on up. Projects run the gamut from no-frill canvas grocery totes to glitzy suede-and-satin jewelry pouches. Some lend themselves to keeping, such as the Garment Storage Bag, and others just beg to be given away, such as the Jingle Bell Gift Bag. Styles for men, women, and children are included.

The CD contains the identical content of the print version, as PDF (Portable Document Format) files which are readable by both Mac and PC computer platforms. All that’s required is the free Adobe Reader, which most people already have installed on their computers.
