Hengstenberg Hand Crank in Domed Case
This fine German machine is in beautiful shape, particularly the case. Note the beautifully turned handle and small spindles at each corner.

The finish is generally in very good condition. The decals are silvering in some places, and the machine needs a bit of cleaning. But the hand crank moves smoothly, no rust or freezing. The previous owner says: "Hengstenberg Hand Crank (Germany 1895-1910?). These sewing machines were beautifully engineered and are sought after by collectorís world wide. The badge on this machine indicates it as distributed by J. Silberg of Hamberg, Germany. It operates smooth as silk."

The inlaid ruler along the front of the case is also in excellent condition.

The faceplate and backplate have been decoratively etched. I've not seen this before, though no doubt it's familiar to collectors of these fine machines.

A shuttle and bobbin are in the machine, they move in an arc to create stitches, called a "vibratory shuttle" mechanism.

The mechanism looks like this from the underside.

Feet that came with this machine include a straight-stitch, two narrow hemmers, and a gathering foot. Also, three extra bobbins.

The serial number is 1146192.
