ArtQuilts use many of the materials and techniques of traditional quilting, but use them in nontraditional ways. ArtQuilts also often incorporate unexpected materials and techniques, such as metallic mesh, beads, paint, and transfer media.

My ArtQuilts are original, one-of-a-kind creations, intended to hang on a wall, just like a painting. Like paintings, they have a flat color/design element. But ArtQuilts also have texture--a three-dimensionality contributed by the stitching superimposed over the flat design. This extra dimension adds sparkle, depth, and complexity, and gives the works a very tactile appeal.

My work clearly shows my love of color--raw, exhuberant, visceral juxtapositions as well as subtle surprises. Recently I have been using vintage men’s ties and double-shot (warp and weft different hues) silk dupioni to add luster and vibrance as well as surprising shifts as one changes their perspective on the work.

I'm intrigued by pattern, too, as well as the local flora of sub-tropical Bradenton, Florida. Having lived most of my life "up north," it's great fun to be surrounded by so many "strange" trees, shrubs, and plants. The iconic palm has been the inspiration for another recent series, using highly patterned batik fabrics.
