| This gorgeous red Viking is one that I bought new in 1980. I was in graduate school at the time and it was a Serious Purchase, my first "good" machine. I used it regularly for two decades, making everything--clothes, costumes, bags, upholstery, leather stuff, samples for my books and patterns, you name it, it has sewed at least one. It is a trooper, one of the top five sewing machines I've ever used (and that's a lot of sewing machines). |
| This is one of only two consumer machines (the other being the Elna Grasshopper) that has a true low gear for increased penetrating power for heavy-duty work. It's a very nice, very complete outfit. It has been well cared for over the years, regularly serviced, last serviced completely in Ray White's class in June 2008. To the best of my knowledge it is in excellent working condition, and has none of the issues that can affect these machines when they've been left sitting for years. |
| It's a nice compact outfit. The plastic cover holds everything neatly inside... |
| ...and the slide-out tray under the freearm holds the various parts and pieces, including the extension table and user manual in front... |
| ...and the foot controller and box of 8 cams in back. |
| The extension table slides on and snaps in place easily, so it can be used as a portable. |
| There's also a large extension table for the machine, for quilting. |
| It's got lots of feet and a couple extra bobbins ... |
| And both the instruction manual and the Handbook... |
| ...the Handbook has page after page of samples sewn during class, all sorts of things you can do with the machine and various feet and accessories. That has been an exceptional resource over the years! |
| The back of the machine is its weak link. The spool pins both have cracked, been repaired with SuperGlue (they hold fine, just not pretty), this is the worst of the two... |
| And there's a chip out of the top right edge, plus little chips out of the screw holes, that sort of thing. |
| Overall, though, even the back looks good for its age! This machine has been sold. |
