White Rotary Electric anniversary edition, cast in embossed bronze |
| This is a very special, very rare, sewing machine and cabinet. Made by White in 1926 for their 50th anniversary, it was cast in bronze. This is only the eighth example of this machine known to exist, according to Katie Farmer, the White expert. This is the tarnished and dirty state of the machine; see hers all cleaned up and polished on her Web site, Katie Farmer's "Jezebel." |
| All of these bronze embossed sewing machines were made in 1926, and all were originally in the "Mount Vernon" cabinet. This cabinet is in excellent condition, solid and sturdy, with beautifully figured veneer... except for an unfortunate burn mark in the top. |
| The top lifts up and off. |
| The machine lifts up from the cabinet well in the usual manner. |
| The serial number is FR3244995; note that the last three digits appear to have been etched by hand rather than stamped. Note also the bronze finish glinting through in spots. |
| The detailing and design of this machine is stunning. The casting and the embossing, of course... but even the finest details, such as on the front of the machine over the needle. |
| The back of the machine is equally as fine as the front. Here, again, one can see hints of the bronze finish shining through the grime and tarnish. |
| The cabinet is labelled with the Mount Vernon badge, inside the skinny right-hand drawer... which also has an inkwell. |
| At least two different styles of pulls have been noted on the eight of these cabinets extant; this is one.
This machine sold within minutes of announcing that it had been found; I wish I had a dozen more to re-home. |
