Singer Model 66 "Red Eye" in Straight-Leg Treadle Cabinet
A gorgeous sewing machine in a gorgeous cabinet. They did not originate together, the machine is far older than the cabinet. But they make a very handsome pairing, and the machine treadles beautifully.

The decals on this machine are quite common, affectionately known as the "Red Eye" pattern. The decals are in quite nice shape, very little silvering with good color and definition.

The serial number on the machine is G8991962, indicating that it was commissioned for manufacture in September of 1921, one of 50,000 commissioned on that date. Model 66s are considered one of the most-manufactured machines in history.

This the machine that gave the "class 66" style of drop-in, horizontal bobbin its name.

The faceplate is very ornate.

The bobbin winder mechanism works well.

The back of the machine is as well-preserved as the front.

The back of the cabinet is finished as nicely as the front.

This cabinet has a plate that attaches to the machine, rather than to the cabinet, filling the hole where the treadle belt passes through. Alternatively, one could install one of the spring-loaded fillers into the cabinet.

This is one of the "back-clamping" 66s, and includes a nice complement of feet. Back-clamping feet are rather difficult to find.
