Singer 15ML158 Sewing Machine
This is a model 15--one of the most common sewing machines ever made, because it's one of the most reliable and so easy to maintain. What makes this machine a model 15ML158, different from most you find in the U.S., is that it was made in Japan for the Indonesian market. This was likely one made by Singer when it merged with The Pine Company in post-war Japan. It was an uneasy merger, to say the least... but that's another story.

The machine is in exceptional condition for its age; it was made probably in the 1960s. How it got from Malaysia to the U.S. is anybody's guess. The machine has a provenance with a family that emigrated to the U.S. from Belgium, and bought the machine when they got to the U.S. Go figure.

The decals are almost perfect, the popular "Sphynx" design.

It's a treadle machine, and both the machine and the treadle mechanism work beautifully.

The cabinet has some faint water stains on top, and a little bit of buckled veneer at the right side. Drawers all work nicely and overall it's very solid.

The inside wood is also in good condition, with a few faint stains and some chips in the veneer on the right side of the machine.

This beautiful machine is now living in a new home.
