Kenmore 158.1030 "Roses" machine |
| Sears made a series of these 3/4-size portables in the 1970s. All were manufactured by Jaguar/Maruzen in Japan, indicated by the "158." prefix on the model code. The variations by model (which included the 1020, 1030, 1040, 1045, 1050, and 1060) were relatively small; generally the new models incorporated some additional stitch capabilities.
| These are all-metal machines with internal 1.0-amp motors--relatively powerful for a 3/4-size machine. |
| The 1020, 1030, 1040, 1045, and 1050 all came in the signature "Roses" embossed case, while the final iteration, the 1060, did not. |
| The case is a clamshell type. When each is packed in their respective cases, a Kenmore "Roses" machine is comparable in weight to the Singer Featherweight. |
| These machines have an extension bed to the left side that flips up, and the accessory box in front rolls out to provide an extension table at front. |
| Feet and accessories store conveniently in the box built into the front of the machine. |
| A nice assortment of feet and accessories. Class 15 bobbins, oscillating type bobbin mechanism. The feed-dog drop lever is to the right of the bobbin case. |
